Emergency First Aid
A range of training courses are available relating to Health and Safety including:

First Aid at Work
Course Objectives
At the end of the 24 hour course, course members will be able to:
- assess situations and carry out appropriate action including informing emergency services
- carry out artificial ventilations and chest compressions
- place a casualty in the recovery position and know when to use this position
- know when and how to use the spinal injury recovery position
- clear obstructed airways
- control severe bleeding
- recognise and treat shock
- understand the requirements for a first aid kit and how to report accidents in the workplace
- recognise and treat head injuries
- recognise and treat major illnesses
- deal with burns and scalds
- deal with chemical contamination
- deal with poisons
- recognise and treat strains, sprains, dislocations and fractures
- know when and how to move casualties safely
- recognise and treat other miscellaneous conditions
- all the above in safe and approved manner, with no risk to self or a third party
Who is the Course For?
Anyone involved in a rural industry, whether employer or employee, spouse or office staff, who has not attended a first aid course run by a recognised organisation during the last three years. Please note that under HSE rules First Aid at Work Certificates are valid for 3 years and re-testing must be done before the old certificate runs out. If a certificate has run out it will be necessary for the holder to attend a full First Aid at Work course.
Duration/Format
24 hours - must be completed within 13 weeks. Two examiners are required to conduct the examination and they should not have participated in the training of those trainees.
First Aid at Work - Refresher
Course Objectives
At the end of the 12 hour course, course members will be able to:
- assess situations and carry out appropriate action including informing emergency services
- carry out artificial ventilations and chest compressions
- place a casualty in the recovery position and know when to use this position
- know when and how to use the spinal injury recovery position
- clear obstructed airways
- control severe bleeding
- recognise and treat shock
- understand the requirements for a first aid kit and know any changes in first aid at work
- legislation or guidance
- recognise and treat head injuries
- recognise and treat major illnesses
- deal with burns and scalds
- deal the chemical contamination
- deal with poisons
- treat fractures
- be aware of changes in first aid techniques since their last course
- all the above in safe approved manner, with no risk to self or third party
Who is the Course For?
Anyone with a valid and current First Aid at Work certificate. First Aid at Work certificates are valid for three years and re-testing must be done before the old certificate runs out. If a certificate has run out it will be necessary for the person to carry out a full First Aid at Work course.
Duration/Format
12 hours. Two assessors are required to conduct the examination and they should not have participated in training of those trainees.
